I read those instructions for Mashape, but got totally lost in that long lost on the “Documentation” page for the imgur API there. Basically I didn’t know what you meant by “get a key for it” – there’s no big red box saying “here’s your API key” if you know what I mean 😉
Hey, is there an ELI5 on how to set up this application?
I got so far as to creating an imgur account and I think I linked it to the app, but it says “Slots: 0 (Reset: 02:00:00)”.
I tried doing the thing on Mashape, but I don’t know what to click there, there are some auth token headers needed or something like that. Unfortunately, the documentation seems to be aimed at people who understand what they are looking for.
I’m setting up a forum where I’ll post a quick guide on how to do that. The problem lies in Imgur giving every app a limited amount of resources, to be shared amongst all users. To be more specific, they are giving the app a total of 1250 uploads per day, shared with all the users, so if a single person makes that many uploads then noone else can use the app until it resets the next day. So the only solution is using your own Mashape key so you will get the 1250 uploads for yourself shared with noone else. I will post back with the guide. (you need to sign up, “create” an app, get a key for it, enter it in imgur settings)

Im getting an error with every upload i do, if i check the log for error it states ‘Error during Upload’ is this an error that occurs from my side or is imgur just having issues? (upload works fine via website).
Latest 3.85 version would display another error message. API usage for the day has been reached for my app (imgur gives every app a limited amount of operations/day shared with anyone who’s using my app). Check a few of the comments below about using a Mashape API key.

Thank you admin, i figured it out, it just an display error. It always show “Slots: 0 (reset 9:00:00)” but when i tried to upload some images, it worked.

I have followed your instructions and it still say “Slots: 0 (reset 9:00:00)”, also when i click on Check Client Status, nothing appear.
Does it mean i did something wrong or i have to wait to 9:00:00 to get my free slot?

Hello, thanks for the donation, however I will issue a refund for now:
I decided against going with the Mashape option for 2 reasons:
* It seems to be slower than the default imgur api, and upon refreshing account data it’s freezing for 20-30 seconds or more, not sure if this is a temporary issue.
* They don’t seem to have an option to limit usage to the subscribed plan, so with the current way it works I would have to be checking all the time whether the plan limit was reached for the day or else I would be billed extra automatically.
However, I made it so that you can use your own Mashape API key, that way you will be your own client with default free 12500 credits (or 1250 uploads) per day available just to you, not shared with others. You need to register with them and “create” an app, then get a key and enter it in MyImgur options under “Imgur login/api”. Info: http://api.imgur.com/#commercial
So I will refund the donation now, since that was meant to be used for the Mashape billing if I understood correctly. You can still donate some though just for the app 🙂

What does it mean for MyImgur and how much does it cost approx?
Not sure, but as you realize this is just a free hobby app from which I make no money other than some donations, so paying to use Imgur’s API is not really in my mind.

also.. I have no way to contact imgur about it, they ceased all api support very long ago. I posted a few times about some bugs in the auth/key refresh process, never got a reply.

Ty. Looks like an issue with their API, all I get at the end is 400: Bad Request. Then I tried with another popular uploader: ShareX, same result.. error 400 at the end.
ShareX: “The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request.”
MyImgur: “HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request”

Simple pics uploads with no problems, but when its Gifs (10-50Mb) i’m getting upload error.
Got an answer from Imgur, they say there is a 10MB file size limit for the API.

It seems to be an issue with new installs, but after restarting the app it gets fixed.

”doubleclick” is not working
Just double click to set the key then select it and click enable.

Can’t fix Imgur’s shitty service.
Works like 30% of the time. A massive pain in the ass. Anyone reading this do not download.
You have to relogin until it finally works. Can you not just add an automatic retry? Instead of just having to do it manually. I’ve got a script that uploads to imgur via the API. It hasn’t changed and has been working fine for years. If there’s nothing you can do please can you open source this so someone else can fix it? Don’t just leave this dead in the water. You put this application up and now a lot of people use it. I would be a shame.

Status Code: 429
Rate limiting. This indicates you have hit either the rate limiting on the application or on the user’s IP address.
I did try reinstalling, but it didn’t help.
Rate limit means either you or overall the app users have reached the hourly-allocated slots for API use.
I’m interested in Imgur, but I have a “newbie” question.
How long will the pictures stay on your website?
If I post some pictures, I want to be sure that they will remain there for a minimum of 4-5 years.
